ANDREESSEN HOROWITZ

The Inside:
Andreessen Horowitz just closed a fresh $15B fundraise, pushing the firm past $90B in assets under management and putting it neck and neck with Sequoia as the biggest venture firm on the planet.

The details:

  • The new capital equals about 18% of all US venture dollars in 2025, meaning nearly one out of every five VC dollars in America now flows through a16z.

  • The money is split across five funds, including $6.75B for growth, $3.4B for apps and infrastructure, $1.176B for “American Dynamism” focused on defense and industrial tech, plus biotech and healthcare.

  • a16z is now deeply tied into sovereign wealth money, including Saudi Arabia’s PIF, and has built offices across the US, Europe, and Asia, with a new Seoul hub for crypto.

  • At the same time, Marc Andreessen has become politically embedded, advising the Trump administration, helping staff the Pentagon and intelligence agencies, and pushing a16z’s defense heavy portfolio from Anduril to Shield AI and hypersonic missile startup Castelion.

Why it matters:
This is no longer just a VC firm. a16z is now operating like a privately run industrial policy arm, blending Saudi capital, Washington access, and Silicon Valley tech to shape who builds America’s next generation of AI, defense, and manufacturing companies.

ChatGPT

The Inside:

OpenAI just launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated health mode after revealing that 230M people already ask health and wellness questions on ChatGPT every week. The company is now formalizing what was already happening at massive scale.

The details:

  • ChatGPT Health moves all medical and wellness chats into a separate space, so your symptoms, workouts, or meds do not leak into normal conversations.

  • It can connect to Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and other wellness apps, letting ChatGPT pull in things like activity, nutrition, and biometrics.

  • OpenAI says Health chats will not be used to train its models, and the system will try to nudge users into Health mode if they start talking about medical topics elsewhere.

  • Inside Health, ChatGPT can still use context from your main account, like knowing you run marathons or track calories.

  • The product is positioned as a response to overloaded doctors, high costs, and fragmented care, but OpenAI also admits it is not approved for diagnosis or treatment.

Why it matters:
OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into a front door for healthcare. When hundreds of millions of people already use it to ask about symptoms, training plans, meds, and mental health, building a dedicated health layer locks in behavior that was previously informal. Whoever controls that interface ends up sitting between patients, doctors, and health data.

SHORTS

Disney Plus is launching a short form vertical video feed in the US later this year, mixing original clips, social style videos, and scenes from shows and movies inside the app.

Disney says the experience will be personalized and designed to match how people already scroll on their phones. It is a move to boost daily engagement and keep younger viewers from drifting to TikTok and Reels.

Gmail is rolling out a new AI Inbox that shows suggested to dos and grouped updates like finances and purchases in a single view.

Google is also adding AI powered search so you can ask natural language questions and get answers pulled directly from your emails. Alongside that, Gmail is launching a built in proofreading tool similar to Grammarly, with most of these features first going to paid AI Pro and Ultra users.

SpaceX just got FCC approval to launch 7,500 more second generation Starlink satellites, bringing its total approved fleet to 15,000. The decision also lets Starlink operate across more frequencies and offer direct to cell service outside the US.

The FCC deferred approval for most of the additional satellites SpaceX requested beyond this batch. Half of the approved satellites must be launched by the end of 2028, with the rest due by 2031.
